Will a sealed record still show up on a background check?

A sealed record is confidential and exempt from public disclosure, so an ordinary background check generally won't reveal it.

What sealing doesn't reach.

Specified agencies retain access — certain licensing bodies, criminal justice agencies, and others defined by statute.

Local agency records. This matters especially with automatic sealing, which addresses the FDLE record. The arresting agency's own file, and a mug shot published on a sheriff's website, may remain.

Private databases. Commercial background check companies and mugshot sites scrape public records continuously. Information collected before sealing can persist in private databases that aren't bound by the court's order, and removing it requires contacting those companies directly.

That last item is the one that surprises people most — a properly sealed record that still appears in a commercial search because a private company captured it years earlier.
